Primera Rice – A Whole Grain

Primera Rice is a whole grain. A whole grain is a cereal with its kernel made up of bran layer, endosperm and germ still intact after the process of removing its hull. It does not undergo the next rice-process of polishing.

Significant amount of whole grain in diet becomes the source of insoluble fiber which can hold water in the gut and help to prevent constipation. It promotes gastrointestinal health. Apart from fiber, whole grain contains B vitamins, minerals such as selenium, iron and magnesium, phenolic compounds and phytic acid. The red bran layer of Primera Rice abundantly provides an antioxidant called anthocyanin.

Eating whole grains reduces the metabolic risk factors for type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease. National Dietary Guidelines of different countries advocate the inclusion of whole grains in diet for optimal health benefits. Besides Primera Rice, buckwheat, brown rice and oatmeal are also examples of whole grains that we can eat.
