Have you realized that the water to rice ratio is different for different batches of same type of rice? For an example, the antioxidant rich, low GI Primera Rice you bought in August might need only two cups of water for cooking one cup of rice, while the Primera Rice you bought in December might need three cups of water for one cup of rice. This is due to the fact that the rice bought in December might be drier than the rice bought in August. Although rice looks and feels dry, it does contain certain level of moisture. When the moisture is lost, the rice needs more water during the cooking process.
How do you make sure that you have cooked Primera Rice to its ideal texture when the water to rice ratio is inconsistent? If you are opening a new pack of rice, cook a cup of rice with two cups of water. Ideally, a cup of raw Primera Rice should yield three cups of cooked rice. So, if the rice has enlarged to three times its original size once cooked, the water to rice ratio of 2:1 is correct. If the rice has not enlarged thrice its size, it’s a sign that this pack of rice needs more water to cook. So, remember that ideally, cooked Primera Rice should expand three times its original size.
